Hey guys. In need of some expert help here.. Basically I have an Acer aspire 5332 laptop and tried to restore it with the restoration discs i made after purchasing it.. The reason for restoring it was due to forgetting my logon password. Now it has locked the hdd and not sure what the best way to proceed is. Can i wipe it? And if so how? Could i purchase another hdd or is the password still going to cause problems? Any help would be much appreciated

I am not sure this falls within the rules. I am sure one of the mods/admin will be around shortly to be sure.
Mainly worried about helping because of

I am not sure of the validity of your thread. Just to be sure, I am going to wait and see what the mods say about it. (better safe than sorry).

If the hard drive has a password on it, you'll need to replace the hard drive in order to do anything.

Or go into the BIOS and remove the password (assuming you know it)

and voyager, as we counting this thread as falling inside the rules?

a

Na I dont know the password it asked for a password upon me putting the boot disc in.. I suspect it will be a master password to reset it.. If any one knows what the master password is for a Hitachi hard drive? Disclosing that information should be ok right? If you one of you guys know................................

negative. By default the drive has no password. That has to be set after the computer is setup. No offence, but if it is your computer, you should know the password.

I didnt set a hard disk password.. So if there is one it must be a master standard password.. I think im on to.something here :-P

I like how you keep implying I am in possession of a laptop that isn't mine lol still got the receipt lol

And no, you where telling me I should know the password but implying it wasn't. "if it is your computer" in the UK thats an expression used to imply.

Anyway dont want to get in an arguement with you guys. Never know when I may need your assistance. Id say again.. But on this occaison the amateur that asked the question solved the question. Thanks you guys

I'm pretty sure this doesn't violate the rules since it's not removing the password or cracking it, he's talking about completely wiping the system from what I can understand, and got hung up on the default password for the HD.

Sounds like everything is done so I'm going to leave it. 32 spaces isn't exactly an intelligent password if someone set it anyway.

If it was an ATA password (which it sounds like it was) you could have replaced the drive and it would be fine.
