if you are saying you need to break a password to format the drive, then I do believe that it is against the rules of the forum.
Discussion of any of the following is NOT allowed at Computer Forum:
Promoting piracy as an alternative to the legal purchase of computer software or media material.
The use of torrent trackers or p2p software to obtain copyrighted material. Any discussion of programs like Limewire, Frostwire, eMule, eDonkey, etc.. is not allowed, whether or not you believe or suggest it's for legal use.
The offer or solicitation of invitations to private torrent tracking websites, such as Demonoid. Public sites, like The Pirate Bay, cannot be discussed here.
Illegally modified OS versions such as "XP Black," which are typically distributed illegally.
Installation of a Macintosh operating system on a PC, also know as a "Hackintosh" system.
Advice on how to crack or circumvent legitimate software activation. This includes: key generators; cracked executable files; re-arming software trial periods; brute force methods for obtaining activation keys; OEM activation hacks, etc.
Cracking or bypassing an administrator/any other user log-in password.
Stripping DRM from media files.
DVD/Blu-Ray disk decryption.
Software that facilitates the unauthorized entry into a network.
Posting malicious links or attempting to distribute malicious software.
Keystroke recording software, or any application that allows you to secretly monitor the activities of another computer user.

however, I do believe that DBAN could do it maybe.

You might be able to bust it with DBAN, but I have never tried it on a Password Protected drive. Other than that, you might be relegated to a google search. What I would do is message Johnb or another mod, explain your situation, and ask them if this is in violation of that rule before we move ahead farther.

hard drive passwords are set in the BIOS. I have one myself. But I am unsure of if it is a BIOS controlled thing, or if it is stored on the drive. Basically, if it is stored on the drive, then he is probably screwed. Without the password there is no way to break it or change it following the rules here. If not, and it is in the BIOS, then he will need to remove the drive to do it.

But as the rules of the site go, we are splitting hairs.

i remove the HDD and put it on external pc didn't detect it but with "****** Partition Master 9.1.0 Home Edition" detect it and when i try to do format software hang
any help ?

PS: about there rule i am admin and product manger on other forum ( mobile phone soft and hardware) so some time break the rule just for help

ok, then you are looking at a drive that is locked itself. What I would do is call the laptop manufacturer and ask about how to remove a HDD password when you have "forgotten" it.

but you are not an admin here. I am not going to help you more than just basic common since stuff until we figure out if we are breaking the rules. I am not risking a BAN for you. sorry.

HDD password is stored on the HDD itself and has nothing to do with the BIOS.BIOS is only used to put a password ON the HDD.If you forget the password of the HDD then you are screwed because HDD is completely locked unless you know the password.

Is that your HDD?
If yes,try to remind yourself what the password is.

If this is not your HDD then the password can be any and you are screwed and no format tool will help you here at all.Try to type the password of your BIOS (if any).Maybe you'll get lucky and they are the same.If not,try to type the BIOS name such as PHOENIX.Maybe that is the password. If not try four zeros or ADMINISTRATOR.

But like I said.Password can be any and you are screwed because there is no program(s) that will help you unlock it.

By the way if you are trying to unlock that HDD and it is not yours and you are doing that to steal someone's personal data then that is against the rules.

I'm closing this thread due to on the line of breaking the rules. If this is not your hard drive you will need to do your own googling for the issue. If this is your drive, contact the drive maker for support.
