Hi, i was wondering if i can have some help with my hdd.

Recently my hdd (WD 200gig) been makin clicking noises. Wen i boot up my computer, everything's slow (i mean very slow). It would sometimes get to the windows loading screen, but would restart after that. Is there a way for me to get the information out of that hdd before i send it bak to the manufacture? I also was wondering how does the freezing of the hdd works? Also i heard that an external encloser might work also.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

thank you

do you get any errors when you get into your OS, and what OS are you using??
hard drives do sometimes make clicking noises, but the last time mine did and it was running slow it was on the verge of failing....

yes, i do get an error sometimes, but most of the time it would restart. The OS im using is Windows XP Pro.

you might need to re-format your system. there might be a way to fix that error, but i dont know how, if you wait a while someone with a bit more experience than me might be able to help.

Hmm.. I had the same problem when I first built my computer but now its fine. Should I be worrying?

i had that clicking problem on my laptop harddrive too. I also had some error screen when I booted my computer which I later found out meant my hard drive was going to die. As far as getting stuff off your your hard drive before it completely dies, I would either burn your info onto CD's or onto an external hard drive. Lucky for me I had just gotten an iPod mini so I just used that.

connect the drive as a slave to another machine with the same OS. Start it up without letting Chkdisk run and copy off the data.
