HDD Noise?

Hello all,

I'm building a gaming pc and I'm putting a 240GB SSD in my build and a 2TB HDD. I'm using the SSD as my boot up storage and my HDD as my mass storage, so I'm curious as to if when I'm using my computer will the HDD make noise or will it only make noise when I begin to use it for storage such as putting files on it since I'm booting windows from the SSD. Thanks for the help!

You will more than likely will hear the case fans over any HDD noise. HDDs are not like they used to be, they are relatively quite. They will make small sounds when accessing it, i.e reading and writing to the drive. You would have to put your ear up to the case.

Providing its a decent drive, you should only hear it spin up if the drive went to sleep. I have both sides of my case off and I can't hear my Western Digital drive saving or accessing data. I'll hear it when it spins back up after falling asleep though.

What specific drive is it? They vary a little bit.

My desk is a foot or two from my face so it's pretty prominent when you throw any sort of IO load at it.
