HDD on right setting?

Some guy at the store told me to make sure my hdd setting was set to ide instead of ata in the mobo. Maybe it was the other way around but shouldn't my mobo already know the right setting?

Most AMD boards come default with the SATA ports in Native IDE mode. All you lose is features of AHCI. If you dont know what they are you probably dont need them;). Either way, if your computer is running fine your set.
