HDD or SSD?

Which is the better hard drive to look for when buying a netbook? All I know is you will get greater storage out of a HDD.

depends really. SSD are more quite, use less energy, more durable, and are faster.
HDD (SATA) are more standard (replacements are cheaper), will give you way more space (like, aloooot more) and well. that's it :) i've also heard some faults about SSD, like life expectancy.

I know netbooks aren't the most powerful things to begin with. I'm looking at getting something that I can get the most battery life out of. I see newegg has some asus eee 901 netbooks with a 12GB SSD hard drives, 1GB of RAM, and run XP. And they look like a steal at $279.

Hard drives are very much more reliable. That is the major hurdle solid state memory has to overcome to become standard.

if you've seen that samsung ssd video. they are quite durable they still ran after the testers started banging together the drives.

They are reliable until, suddenly one day, they stop working and the only fix is to reformat them. I'm the wrong person to tell they are reliable. I have personal experience.

Solid state drivers are more durable and require less energy in the fact that there are no moving parts. If you decide to throw your netbook around with a SSD, chances are the hard drive will not suffer any damage, although the rest of the netbook would. You would get more storage for your money with a hard disk drive. They both have pros and cons.
