I have two 2tb drive in my system. currently everything is on the master drive and backed up to the 2nd drive.

I want to create a partition for my OS (win7) another for all the files associated with win7. I then want to create a separate partition to install linux(on the master drive) and play around with it.

What do I need to know before doing any modifications?

I don't think you'll have any issues. You might want to use GParted to shrink your Windows 7 partition first though.

Why would I shrink the windows 7 partition? I was going to make a partition the size of my OS roughly 15gb.

Also how would I move the Os to the new partition?

Oh you haven't installed yet? Well, when you go to create the partition, just make a new partition that is 15GB. What version of Linux are you going to use?

windows 7 is currently installed on my C drive with no partitions. I was thinking of using linux mint I might get a few different distros going just to have an idea of linux,

So you have one large partition then. That's why you need to shrink your partition. Use GParted to shrink it. Then boot to the Linux Mint disc and when you go to install it, just select the size you want for the partition (I'd give LM 15 or 20GB)

how would I shrink my partition and only select the OS partion of my C drive?
