I've connected my new 2.5 hard disk to a stationary computer (2.5 to 3.5 ide adapter) and installed win xp on it, it all worked just fine.
when im connectin the hard drive to my laptop and start the laptop right before the windows xp loading screen should appear there is a black screen. The screen and computer is still on but it just seems like nothing is loading. I've tried booting in safe mode and nothing will work.
can anyone help me here?

thanks.

the problem is that I cant because my laptop wont boot from the cd (dont know why), that is why I installed win xp on another computer .

I am looking around for things it could be, but am not finding much.

I don't want to sound overbearing, but confirm that you are following these steps to attempt to change to boot order (taken from online because I do not have this make or model):

- Boot the system up, hit F2 when you see the HP or Compaq logo.
- It will let you go to the PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility window.
- Go to Boot tab and change the boot sequence to CDROM.

- Hit F10 to save the new setting and continue to boot.

If this is not working, I have a few more questions:

Do you have more than 1 optical drive? A CDROM and and DVDRW for example. If so, make sure you're choosing the right device to boot from.

EDIT: Sorry, it's a laptop, you probably won't have 2 optical drives.

When you are in the BIOS, what boot options are you given? If your optical drive is not in the choices, could it be that a connection is loose? Will the drive open and shut while in the BIOS?

20 questions, whew! Just grasping for information because I am a bit stumped.

If anyone else has any ideas, more the merrier.

1 optic drive. the CD drive is my first one to boot in the BIOS choices.
the drive can open and shut while in the BIOS.

So when you put your WinXP disk in and restart, there will be some text at the bottom of the screen that says "Press any key to boot from CD..."

And you are pressing a key on your keyboard when you see that?

there is no "Press any key to boot from CD..."...
the computer tries to boot from the hd\floppy\LAN but not from the cd drive..

Hmm.

Have you booted from the CD before using this computer? Or is this the first time you've tried?

I would try accessing the boot menu during boot up (on my computer it is F11) and choose CD from there,
and I would try to boot using another bootable disk, see if it the disk that is the problem.

Other than that, I am about at the end of the help I can offer from here. I'm stumped.

Sorry, and good luck to you.

if you cant boot to the cd on that system , you need to download a bootdisk maker and create a a dos boot floppydisk you can also use win95 floppy bootdisk
then find and install CD drivers that are compatable with your CD and with the OS you put on the bootdisk
boot to the floppy and run the setup program on your windows cd.

you may try to look on www.bootdisk.com for what you are looking for.
