HDD required?

[elobire]

is a hard drive required to get a picture on the monitor?
i want to know because i have all the components i need for a computer apart from the hard drive because somehow i broke it when removing it from a computer....anyway the computer im making doesnt seem to put a picture on the monitor even though i get the CPU fan turning on when i start it up.

oh and the computer i removed the HDD from works fine without it in, so im wondering if its the MB that is bust, as its second hand.

thanks,

No it's not required... It will just tell you there's no HDD on the system when starting... and won't start.
But it's not required to see if the computer starts, no.

Got the cables hooked up to the monitor right?
and is the computer using a vid card or onboard?

its using a onboard card, but i tried putting in a graphics card but it still doesnt work.
the monitor also seems to detect that its connected becauase the "no input detected" sign dissapears when i plug it in.
here is the motherboard i got:

i did some research and found that HP computers have problems starting up because of the RAM but i changed the RAM and it still doesn't work.
