HDMI Video Card Question

I want to set up my computer (below) with a new video card so that I have my monitor hooked up through a DVI connection and an HDMI cable from my computer to my TV. Basically be able to use my comp with the monitor if the TV is in use or switch to the HDMI output and be able to watch video off my comp on the TV (or just use the TV as a monitor).

I just wasn't sure how it all worked in terms of audio making to the HDMI output to get to the TV? I assume all video cards can pass audio (otherwise why would the hdmi with no audio be better than DVI?) and was just wondering how it all worked.

Also I'm open to any suggestions you may have for a good card for this purpose.

Thanks

is there a reason to prefer either ATI or NVIDIA for what i want?

I don't think so. I am not sure if there are any Nvidia GFX cards that allow audio via HDMI. I know you can get the GTX 285 and 295 with HDMI but I am not sure about audio out. This is probably your cheapest option and I have heard this is a very good card.

After a quick search on google I have found that a GTX 260 with HDMI does allow audio to pass through it. But this ATI card is still the cheapest option. Also it is direct X 11 capable.
