Right now, im planning to buy a HDTV 1080p.

my main use will be for my desktop. (also video games, movies)
Since i NEVER EVER watch regular TV, i was wondering if it is useful to by a HDTV.

I heard the main difference of a HDTV and HD monitor is HDTV has a TV tuner.

Will using a HDTV as a monitor burn its life faster? Waste more electricity? Basically a waste compared to a HD monitor.

Is there a quality difference between a HDTV and a HD monitor?

Thanks for helping.

Yes. IMHO a computer monitor will have a better adapted screen resolution for the job that you will be using it as, as well as possibly having a faster refresh rate(im not sure about this, can someone clarify?) I dont know of any tvs that can go up to 1900 x 1200 resolution, most stop at 1080...so there is some height your missing out on by going with a big honkin tv...also...you can probably get several pc monitors for the cost of the television... i just honestly dont get the point of the tv unless you plan to sit on the other side of the room from the monster, thats my two cents

How big is the TV? If it supports 1080p and has a DVI or HDMI connection you should be able to use it without a problem.

Yeah, as above ^
But remember, HD monitors are cheaper than HDTVs, and if you wanted to watch HDTV on your computer you could just get a HD tuner card, they are not too expensive and you might save some money

If you never watch TV why consider a HDTV other than you get more screen for less money than a monitor? As for me, my 10 year old is in need of a new monitor, so to make the room tidy I'm going to buy a 27-32 inch HDTV so he can use as a monitor and play his game stations, watch TV/movies on. I'll make sure to mount in a way so not to cause eye or neck strain.

I suggest purchasing a Monitor TV ... they have a primary function of a monitor but also have a TV tuning card.

They cost a lot less than TVs and are basically the best of all worlds.

After much research the best one I found for the money was the LGM2362D, I purchases this and am more than happy with the results! 1080p with a TV tuner for under £200 gbp
