headphones!!

The most horrible thing for me is shopping for a new set of headphones for my Iriver/PC use....I must say I suck at buying them :eek:

I currently use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106357

These were not overly fantastic...they leak sound to where everyone around me can hear lyric for lyric when the volume is medium high...they also make a sort of scratching sound when a artist is breathing in my mp3s.
They also had a background sound that was always on wasnt bad at higher lvls but lower it was pretty annoying.

So I ask you fellow headphones users for your advice im looking for a good pair this time...my limit is about 40 bucks.

Also what exactly am I looking for when I see headphones? What makes it good and what makes it bad? I look at the specs and it is pretty much another language for me :o

Note im picky on headsets...I prefer a design like the ones I linked...or the ones that go over your head....I can't stand the ones that sit inside your ears...dunno about you but it always rubs my ear raw make um hurt after long use.

*edit*
I saw this pair over @ amazon for 42 bucks and then I searched tigerdirect my friend says that are pretty good...but whats your thoughts on it.

Again Thanks for any help you can give :)

KOSS Beats All! :D !!! The $30- Radio Shack labeled head sets sold with the R.S. name on them lately are the lower line of Koss there. You can pratically ignore people around you with those on. You really have to "crank'em up" for anyone to hear what you are hearing with a set of those on. Plus they don't sound like you are stuck in a mid range tunnel. The old hi fi lovers remember those well 30yrs. ago for sure! Since newegg doesn't carry them, http://www.buy.com//retail/searchre...yword=koss+headphones&category=ce&dcaid=16581

Best headphones EVAH are the Sennheisers until you get into the high end stuff. MMMMMmmm. Audio goodness with a wire. I don't know if you can pick a pair up for $40 though.

I'll readily stick with Koss thank you! I tried Maxell and Sony to get burned on a few pairs there that sounded like an old mono vinyl player that you cranked up by hand some 70yrs. ago. Blah!

i fully agree, sennheiser makes awesome headphones, they are expensive though, ive got the noise cancelling travel ones, the px 220 i think

Well I currently use a Sennheiser brand..note that its not a 80 dollar pair...but the same question would come into play about the fact would buying a high price item fix the problems i have with the current ones I use?

Also I saw these...they fit the budget and they got a good rating....anyone use these.

(still reading reviews looking for the faults)

Reason I am so picky is im paying for collage...I can't afford to spend 100 bucks on a pair that might last me a year...its just impossible for me atm but I want to try and go for the best quaility in sound. Gotta hate school somtimes lol

Heya

Yeah I have the ones above (HD-212) and they are, simply said, amazing. I am speaking from personal experience after 2 years of owning them. Remember that you get what you pay for. If you want good sound, you will need to invest more and these do their job perfectly. I can assure you that if you go for these Sennheisers, you will know what music should sound like :P

My current ones:

5180_pro1.jpg

Sennheiser HD-212Pro specs:

12-19000 Hz
THD, total harmonic distortion <0,2 %
Sound pressure level (SPL) 112 dB(SPL)
Nominal impedance 32 Ohm

Sennheiser MX55 Street specs:

17–21,000 Hz
THD, total harmonic distortion <0,1 %
Sound pressure level (SPL) 115 dB(SPL)
Nominal impendance 64 Ohm

Something like this will give you amazing sound. You do know that people hear rougly 20hz - 20Khz

Well I was looking at this.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1952041&Tab=7&NoMapp=0

Good design...much like few cheap brand pairs I use to buy...specs are
* Frequency Response: 10 - 21,000 Hz
* Min Terminating Impedance: 32 ohm
* Max Spl: 115 dB
* Transducer Principle: dynamic, open

Decent price about 35 bucks ...I wonder tho how is SENNHEISER at warrenties...I notice most come wiht 2 years...do I gotta ship the product ALL the way to Germany if it is to break...if so do I gotta pay for it lol.

Yeya

Yeah these ones you suggested are nice. Yes the warranty is 2 years. I bet that these will be very nice. If you want it for MP3 players, then these may be more practical than the HD-212. The HD-212 shield you off great from outside sound but are also quite big and intended for DJ use and enthusiast music fans. The BASS is amazing.

Well thank you guys for all your input...after reading around I stumbled onto a site called Sweetwater over by me...I didn't know it but a guy my dad knows tours all over the world and goes there to buy equipment and make records...so I headed out there and got a pair of these after talking with a few techies.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ATHM20/

Very sweet....blocks all sound from leaking out...blocks alot of outside sound and the sound is perfect.
I got a extra 15% discount off the online price as well since its cheaper @ the actual store...which is cool..its about 20 mins from me as well so with my 2 year warrenty...its a short drive instead of shipping the item out.

Played Call of Duty 2 and they simply rocked. The bass on these make ya feel like your really there lol.

Once again thanks for all the help :)

Audio Technica also goes under the name Panasonic. I used to get Audio Technica stereo receivers and 12" turn tables for vinly in those days. The MXR was supposedly the best turntable ever made so it was claimed. At that time Koss held the name for headphones with JBL running as the leader for speakers. Now try a Koss set if you get a chance and compare with those. The Koss set here does the same thing with "blocking out" noise along with having no sound leaks to any degree. Bass is excellent with these.

I use my plantronics computer headset for my headphones lmao.But those panasonic ones look pretty good,i dont see whats wrong with them.

The way you could choose which make and model you could go with at one time was to go to a stereo equipment store and try on different sets to make your decision that way. Some places like Radio Shack will let you sample what they carry. Personal preference is the kwy word however.
