heat problem

hello all
I've bought a sony vgn fs 745 like 10 months ago and now i'am having some problems. it just shuts down suddenly ... this is happening like for a week and the temperatures are ;

cpu 194
harddisk 104

what are actually the normal temperatures ? and why can a laptop suddenly shut it self down ???

I'm guessing that those temps are degrees F; either way those temperatures are way too hot; it sounds to me that you're either having problems with your fan or its clogged with dust.

normal operating temps would be about half that i would imagine.
 
cpu 90 C = 194 F
harddisk 40 C = 104 F

but the fan sounds ok to me. Its actually working.... but its really hot though...
 
what are the spec of your sytem; because some systems based on P4's for instance have huge fans and suck in a lot of dust which causes them to heat up; i really do think this is the problem you have

I'm having a similar problem with my Dell Inspiron 5160 (laptop).

I've checked, it's (apparently) not one of the Dells that has a tendency to set on fire.
It's exactly 2 years old and i've had no probs until the last few months, when the fan's been on constantly cos it gets so hot. It's been averaging around 75C/165F and it's been much hotter.

It's not normal. It's very loud and using up energy cos the fan's on the Whole time.

Could it just be that there's a blockage in the air flow?

There are notebooks based on desktop processors; the acer aspire 1800 for instance runs a desktop CPU and uses 3 huge fans; but thats beside the point here.
are you running this system on your lap because you do realise that modern system are actually in fact called notebooks and not laptops for a reason?
All modern notebooks should be run on a hard flat surface. In essence no modern portable system should be referred to as a laptop.
 
i have a sony vaio laptop and sometimes it shuts down when it overheats so i just lift it with out my fan on the floor
