Heatsink came loose.

Hello, I am using the stock intel q6600 heatsink with my processor. Yesterday I noticed that my CPU was overheating and today I noticed that 3 out of the 4 pins on the heatsink had come loose. Do I need to completely take off the heatsink and reapply some compound or can I just put the loose connecters back into their slots?

Thanks

You should just be able to push the pins back down, you should be able to hear some small clicks that lets you know they are locked in place.

taking the heatsink off introduces new air and therefore contaminates the thermal compound. i suggest taking off the heatsink, cleaning it, and re-applying the thermal compound very carefully. that's just what i would do.. i try to keep the lowest temps possible on my computer.
