I have unscrewed the fan connected to the heatsink, and cannot understand hwo to removed the heatsink. How do you do it? Also, once I remove it, do I have to put new thermal paste on it?

Thanks.

Try that, I'm assuming it's attached with epoxy because of your unability to get it off easily. After you do the sanding of teh epoxy and get most of it off, you'll need to apply new thermal paste to keep your temperatures down with whatever cooler you choose.

Okay. Thanks, that explained everything.

So there are NO latches or switches I need to pop on the heatsink of the CPU first right?

There must be something holding it on... I couldn't imagine someone using epoxy thermalpaste on a processor... You sure there's not a latch that you basically need needle nose plyers to remove?

I don't know if this is the case, but older processors and a lot of manufacturers use epoxy just to make sure the processor and HSF stick. One of my processors (a P2) has epoxy on it, I'm just to lazy to do what I just posted and get it off. I don't need to anyways.
