heatsync problem

hello all,
just this afternoon my computer shutoff by its self...so i naturally tried to turn it on and once it reached the boot screen it would shut off...then i opened the case to check for loose wires...i found that the heatsync brackets were broken and the whole heatsync block and fan were loose...i replaced the heat sync bracket and the heat sync itself, but there is a gap between the processor and the block will this affect the processor...cause overheating...the old heatsync sat directly ontop of the processor..
thanx

so the heatsink isn't in direct contact of the cpu? Yes if you turn it on and leave it on it will destroy your processor. Your computer probably shut off after boot because it reached the temp threshold in your BIOS.
