Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - does this take mem from the laptop
like the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 (256 shared) i have 1 gb of ram on this laptop
but it only shows 768

They're pretty much the same, but since AMD and AIT merged they use the ATI chipset for video.

Exactly. To get laptops with dedicated video memory are quite abit more than shared. They perform better, but I couldn't find any for less than $2000.
