You may need a bios upgrade to support the cpu. Try resetting the cmos. Remove the power cord from the power supply then remove the battery from the motherboard, press the power button on the case a few times to discharge any remaining power. Then reinsert battery and power cable and try booting up.

thanks for that mate ill give it a go and let it sit over night and do what you said.... see what happens i allready tried removeing the battery but mayby not for long enogh.. i was able to get into the bios but it would freez up upon saveing and exit ... the board is a acer j88m socket 478 and every where i read sais this cpu is compatible!! and im trying to explore a few options be four i contact the person who sold it they seemed repuatable but you do get duds i supose
so far the bios where would i find an update here is what im useing at tha moment: Manufacturer : Phoenix Technologies, LTD

any help is greatly apreciated as i bought this new cpu as an upgrade to try and help a slowing machien  anyway thanks again guys and hope every one has a good day cheers

if the CPU wasent for that mobo it wouldent even boot to the bios/acer screen, it would stay black/blank.so im thinking it has to do with somthing else.

Edit-driver/s and bad ram stick/s also causes freez ups.

you are legand jhonb35
ill check it out and reserch how to install it if .. i did get the procesor working it must of been the cmos like you mentiond earlyer.... ill look into that bios upgrade you mention now if i flash the bios and it renders my machine inoperable. is there a way to restore it back or will that make it --cactus--

The only way to fix a laptop after a bad bios update would be to send it in to get a new bios chip installed.

so its either hit or miss hey... normaly i dont mind takeing the chance but this is my only system ...... like i said il look into this one you mentioned here
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...600g.html#bios (thankyou for the link too)
but before i upgrade the bios would it be a good idea to contact acer suport first to see if they are compatible or will i get no where with them and be left waiting weeks for response.... how do i find out?? like i said hit or miss.. or is ther a compatibilty calculator

If the laptop is out of warranty then they will charge a fee for support. According to the website the update will work, but things can go wrong.

should that link to bios upgrade be compatible with these specs provided
ps im sory to waste your important time but ive never upgraded a bios before

I don't know why I said it was a laptop. It has nothing to do with the system specs, its all about the model number of system you have.
