Hello, just been shown this forum by jnskyliner34 and Iced_Bullet, who said you was a helpful bunch and that I should post here.

Basically I'm trying to spec my 1st build, I'm after something that is quick, reliable and will be good for a few years. I'll be mainly playing games, modding games, surfing the web and using photshop and coraldraw.

I've virtually spec'd it already but, I'm stuck between 2 mobo's the P5Q Premium (the one I was gonna get) and the Maximus formula II . I was decided on the P5Q Premium but then I started looking about again.

Heres the rest of the system:
Case:
Thermaltake VA3000BWA Tsunami Dream £62.99

PSU:
1000W Corsair HX Series PSU ATX £138.52

MoBo:

Processor:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, Yorkfield Core £211.37

CPU cooling:
ASUS Silent Square EVO £35.68

RAM:
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR2 PC2-8500 £82.07

Graphics Card:
Sapphire HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card £184.40

HDD:
Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive SATAII *32MB Cache* £84.99

DVD RW Drive:
Optiarc (Sony/NEC) AD-7201S-0B £16.79

Floppy Drive:
Sony 3.5" Floppy Drive Black - OEM £3.59

OS:
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit £112.96

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 £63.88

Total: £997.22

I may next year consider getting another HD4870 depending on what games I get into and maybe get a Blu ray drive if it ever takes off fully.

Let me know what you think and if I could have done better/worse. Cheers

Looks good, but you won't need a 1000W PSU, for what you are going to be running 750W will be more than enough.

Otherwise nice build.

probably wont need the floppy - with xp it was handy for SATA/RAID drived during install, but vista supports cd and usb keys now

the 1kw psu is handy in case you want to crossifre in the future

Hi guys thanks for the quick replies.

The reason for the 1000w psu is incase I decide to get another Hd4870. The reason for the floppy is I've got loads of them and want see whats on them and put on CD or get rid of them.

yeah Novatech arent bad, good company, based in sort of bristol/reading/portsmouth type area as well as online
