Hello to all!

I am a Web and Graphic Designer looking to build a new computer to be quite powerful and capable of me Multitasking for using software Aftereffects, photoshop etc.

I would like to use a fast processor, atleast 16gb of ram and 1-2 tb memory.

I always notice "GAMING" desktops etc are they in the same mould of what i'm looking for? Some of the prices for computers IMO are extrodinate and don't know yet if i could pay that sort of dosh!

I know I could get a MAC, but i'm really not a fan and have always prefered PC desktops.

I would really apprecaite it if any of you guys or girls could help me on this task, simply putting me on the correct direction would help tonnes!

Thanks in advance

Hi,Welcome to CF :)

  • Whats your max budget and what currency?
  • Do you need an Operating system?
  • Is it just the system you need? Or other stuff like Monitor, mouse & keyboard etc.

16 Gb of ram is total overkill and a waste of money imo,Even 8GB would be more than enough.

Hi Nevakonza,

thanks for the welcoming!

My budget is roughly 500 to 700 depending? ( maybe i am wrong to think I can get something for that price?) I'm based in the UK
I guess i would need Windows 7
System only, but if you know a good deal, be sure to let me know lol

Thanks

Hi Mate,

Good spec from the gent above, only thing I'd say is you could drop the case price by choosing another one, that one is ugly anyway and spend the spare money on more ram making it up to 12GB as I think that Gigabyte motherboard supports up to 12GB as that's the one I'm looking at

12GB is excessive. Current and future games are barely taking advantage of 4GB, let alone 8GB. You'll only need that much RAM if you do rendering work. It's money you can spend on an SSD or better GPU or anything else, just not more RAM :P

What you have to remember its not all about how a case looks,The Antec 300 has superb airflow,Its whole front panel is Perforated,It also has Dust filters and and a place around the side of the HDD rack to organise and hide cables,Its a very decent case for the price.

Theres also these other cases to consider around the same price if not a bit more.

  • Antec 100
  • Coolermaster Elite 335 Case
  • Coolermaster Elite 430
  • Coolermaster CM690
  • Coolermaster CM690 v2

As for the motherboard,It supports a Maximum of 32GB.

I agree with Linkin on the 12gb,I just think it would be a waste of money and the OP would be better spending this cash on something else if he wanted too like an SSD which will give that system quite a boost over a standard 7200 Rpm drive.

With the i5 2500k, it would be a crime not to overclock. overclocking would help render times, and with something like one of corsairs water cooling solutions, you could OC the mess out of the 2500k.

It may not be important to you, but to me and others, it is. That case is ugly IMO. I was thinking more the CM690 yes as a nice case, it's not cheap though but has all the 'features' you have mentioned.

For his useage a "pretty" case shouldnt be necessary, just getting the job done. I will admit that for myself i went with pretty and good flow (antec 1200) but the looks isnt what its all about. Also I agree with the SSD, the only issue being that he works with photos and ssds will never hold enough for him at this moment. I mean 500gig of SSD = $700+ for a crappy one. He could overclock the i5 but what would he need it for? if anything , since he will be multitasking, He should consider an AMD 6 core, while not as fast as the i5 for processing, it handles multiple tasks like a beast, especially when it comes down to files, not gaming. Also since he will be using so much room for photos etc, maybe considering doing a RAID Setup with 2 smaller but faster RPM HDD's, running at 10000 rpm or even 15000 since SSD's are just not efficient enough for his usage.
