HI

I built a new 3200 athlon 64 xp. I installed a new cd writer.
The computer picks it up as a cd rom. I have no other cd rom installed.
It is set 2 master and the only thing on the cable.
Anybody have any suggestions

thanks

Huh? What's the CPU in that?
As for the CD drive, try uninstalling it from device manager and rebooting to reinstall it (and are you sure its a burner?)

hi

The cpu is a amd athlon 64 bit 3200xp prosessor.
It is a cd-writer and shows up as a cd-rom.
Does making it slave or master affect it when it is the only
drive.

Your does it need 2 be on the the plug of the cable or does it matter

thanks

master or slave wouldn't affect the fact that it is read as a cd-rom. Are you sure, pop a clean cd-r or cd-rw in the drive and a promp should open asking what to do. Click open folder to view files. Then when your window opens it should say in the 'things to do list' (top left of the window) and in that list it should have "burn to disk", if so then it might read as a cd-rom but works like a cd burner. Oh thats for windows xp, what os do you have.

(I am sure you know how to burn a disk, right?)

well the bios will almost always recognize it as a cdrom regardless of weather its a burner or not

In device manager, it will usually list a model number for the CD Drive. Take that model number, put it into Google and find the info on it.

The laptop I am on right now says I have a MATSHITA UJ-810, the general info in properties says: Device type: DVD/CD-ROM drives.

It is a DVD and CD Burner though....etc....

Hope that helps. :)
