OK I have an gateway computer that still runs well. It's a desktop
and the specs are:

Pentium 4 3.4ghz
Ati Radeon HD2400
230gb Hd space

Now I also had an all in one gateway zx 4300
with an integrated intel x4500 gfx card
650g HD
and amd athlon x2 or something.

I loved my all in one, but recently the motherboard went out. So I was thinking of buying a new all in one. The problem is I'm afraid because if it breaks again, its going to be very difficult to repair since everything is integrated inside of the motherboard. So I thought of buying a desktop, But I'm not sure if I should because my first computer is still good. Another thing is I'm some what of a gamer, so I'm not sure if I can upgrade my computer to be more of a gaming computer. If I can upgrade it to be really good for gaming, I think I'll try for another all in one, but if not I think i'll go for a gaming computer. What do you guys think I should do?

If you are really into gaming then I suggest if you aren't capable of building your own to have a friend or computer store build you one with the parts that you select with the help from this forum. A computer you buy from the store isn't really made for gaming as most only have onboard video. You would have to configure a gaming build online somewhere but you'll be spending more money there then building it yourself.

I am capable Of building a computer.
Just really liked the All in one thing.
Is it possible to upgrade my old computer to a modern gaming computer
or is the processor too old to the point where a strong video card wont even help.

Your system is too old. You have a gateway computer and would have to upgrade quite a bit in order to game decently but then you still have an older processor, which the processor may hold you back anyway. So why upgrade when you build something that has an up to date processor and other parts in it that will last you another 5 years or so. And you definately can't game on in All-in-one.
