Hi everyone
I am not wonderful with computers and this can be expensive having to pay an engineer to visit so thought I would try a forum for the answer to small problem
Have just changed ISP and since this the PC wont close down in the normal way but get a "not responding press end to close" notice so can you tell me how to sort this,in non geek speak would be appreciated:confused:

Probably a program not wanting to shut down. Close each program that you have running one at a time till you figure out which one is hanging at shutdown. Or it can be a driver hanging.

what he wants you to do is look in on the lower right of the task bar by the time. look at all the little tray icons, these are programs running in the background on your computer, they run while you do other things on the computer. to close these one at a time, RIGHT click on the little icon, and look for close, exit, quit or something that sounds like it will shut down the program. once u have them all closed. shut down the computer, if it shuts down without that prompt then most likely it was one of those programs running that stopped u from shutting down normally

Thanks jc it is the avast antivirus causing the problem but hate turning it off even just at closedown so is there an alternative?

Have you tried doing a system restore back to the day before you switched internet providers? What are your system specs? Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall AVAST?
