Format--- Please Help, it's a promblem

FORMAT Format
My computer was slow downed. So, I thinked to format drive C: (in which Windows XP was installed). I restarted my computer and inserted the Windows 98 Startup Disc.

Then I go to command menu and typed:
A:\> Format C:

And It started to format. after the completion, I restarted my computer.
But... The Windows was still there. My Drive D: was formatted instead of Drive C:
I'm 100% sure that I type 'C:' to format. I think that it may be due to I used Windows 98 startup disc (floppy, i.e.) instead of windows XP.

Can anybody tell me what's the matter is?

it's because your file system is NTFS on drive C and DOS can't read NTFS (well the version you had can't) anyway
so the drives name have been shifted that's why the D was formatted
if you want to format C ... use winxp cd.
that's pretty much it
