help about processors

should i get a custom computer with:

a AMD® ATHLON® 64BIT 3700 (San Diego) 1MB processor or a:

INTEL® PENTIUM® 4 640 (64 BIT) @ 3.2GHZ 800mhz FSB/HTT/2MB

cos they are about the smae price i was just wondering what would be better

(sorry if i got the wrong bit of the forum, i couldnt find anything that talked about processors)

oh yer, and i need to use the computer for gaming

and is i worth spending extra money on a 19" screen over a 17"?

definatly the AMD Athlon for gaming...
AMd is better for gaming and the intel is better for basic *cough*boring*cough* tasks

CPUs and Overclocking (a cpu and processor is the same thing if you didn't know)

depends on how much extra money and how much you care for a bigger screen

Im prety sure that 99% of the people in this forum will choose AMD for gaming over intel anyday, ive just made a gaming PC with AMD and im very impressed

my opinion for the screen is that id go with the 19" if i could afford it... but other parts are more important so i would be tempted to put the extra money towards RAM or something...

the computer is about £850 and its got specs like:
Memory 1024 MB DDR400 PC3200
Motherboard ASUS® A8V: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, 8X AGP, 5 PCI, ETC
Hard Drive SATA 250 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache
Graphics Card 256MB GEFORCE 6600 8X AGP + DVI + TV-OUT
Power Supply & Cooling 500W (Peak) Silent Dual Rail PSU + 120mm fan & quiet CPU Cooler
Monitor HIGH END TFT: 19 INCH SILVER/BLACK: 8MS + DVI! (£199)

the 17" is about £20 less, and can you think of anything i should upgrade? i should be playing mainly steam games, cheers for youre prev. posts.

you could get a really good machine for £850 with PCI E and maybe dual core ect... the PC in my spec i build yesterday and i bought the parts for around £750 without screen and windows from Ebuyer

I would consider changing to PCI E so you can get a decent card...

As for the screen i think for the sake of £20 i would go for the 19"

EDIT:do you need windows, mouse and keybourd? if you dont you could basicly get my system, 2gig's ram, dual core sata2/300 16mb, but downgrade the graphics to a 7600GT or something for the screen... that should beat your system hands down in gaming.
