Help adding 2nd HD

So i hooked it up correctly to the secondary channel and when i boot my comp it wants me to insert the instalation disc and wants me to install windows, i though i could just plug it in reformat it and go. what do i need to do?

When you boot it up, what edzactly does it say?

insert system disk, then i do and it wants to go through the windows installation process

Go into your bios and make sure it boots from your primary hard drive first.

make sure your old harddrive's jumper is set to Master and the new one is set for Slave

I think he is trying to do the opposite.

no the one with windows my main driver is master, while my newer one/extra is set as slave, when i plug in the maxtor into slave it acts as the master, when i unplug it the samsung acts as the master, both drives do not show up at the same time even if thier plugged in

weird it must be the drive, i have a 1.5g HD Hooked up fine
