Various files refuse to copy during the "setup is copying files" portion of the xp installment...examples are ....stream.sys
ntoskrnl.exe
ssyuv.dll
d3d9.dll.

....and thats just half of them...is this normal?...why is this doing this?

ahh..at the end of the copying..it went to this

Stop: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005,0xF6F8E234, 0x00000000)

setupdd.sys- adress F7427608 base at F73EC000, Datestamp 41107c8f

It could be a number of things. Starting the list would be a compromised CD-- either it's damaged or corrupted.

It could be a problem with the RAM... running memtest86 would likely identify that.

A dirty CDROM would cause random failures and generally take forever to copy stuff.

A damaged or loose IDE cable.

Well...its not the Cd i dont think...because i tried installing my old Xp cd and the same thing happened...certain files wouldnt copy. I dont think the Rom is dirty either..When i get home...im gona check the ram..i found this

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q315335

il try plaing around with the ram....right now i have my Duel channels in slot 1 and 3...though...thats what my DFI tells me to do. What does memtest86 do?

i would be 90% sure that its your ram causing you issues. if you have more than one stick of ram you need to take out one stick and run the system, if you still get problems you need to try the other stick on its own. if you get problems on both runs you need to get hold of another stick to test.
also, with an athlon64 system there is also an outside chance that your memory controller could be screwed.

Now this is getting annoying..im going off one of the RAM..its in slot one...and..i started the installation again...while copying...it refused to copy this file.... vdmindvd.sys...probobly the first of many...has this ever happened to any of you?...its happened on two of my boot disks thus far..

ive had the same problem, turned out to be the processor, i learnt the very expensive way cos i had no spares to swap with so i had to buy, luckily i had a well paying job at the time
