HELP! Backlight is not working.

I turn on my laptop today and see a big blank of black. I can see the lcd if I shine a light on it but it barely helps. :mad:

Ive read that it may be the inverter inside of the laptop and it may have to be replaced.
I really need to get this fixed soon!

The laptop is a HP ZE5300 2.53GHZ and 704mb of ram

I posted this in the monitors section but I dont think thats the appropriate place to post
 
you are right, it could be the backlight or the inverter
really, the only thing you can do is open the computer and if there are no burn marks on the backlight, test it and the inverter with a voltometer. otherwise, you need to pick one to replace. the bulb is cheaper but you have to solder which can be tricky if you dont know what you are doing. but if the bulb looks undamaged, it is probably your inverter board, which is usually mounted somewhere under the backlight in the monitor bezel
 
replace the LCD panel is rather too expensive is better to buy a new laptop than to have it replace.
