1) I have heard that even if you put a 1000W supply in a computer that only needs 500w this will be fine because it will only draw what it needs, is this true?
2) and, i was looking for an AM2 socket processor but didn't fancy spending £500 on one, can anyone suggest a good one for gaming that will be able to run pretty much any game taht was out at the minute?
3) if i buy a dvd drive, can i just plug it onto the motherboard will it work so i can install vista on it?
4) and finallythe motherboard i am gonna get is the ASUS crosshair, this has no onboard graphics connector (vga) as far as i can see, how will i be able to install i graphics card if i can't see what i'm doing?
2) an X2 - 4600 would be plenty i would say. However if this a build from scratch then you should be going Intel LGA 775 and getting a core 2 duo. The E6300 is a bargain price and will smoke most of the AMD line right up to the top. An E6600 is still a cracking price and will destroy anything AMD has to offer, including an FX-62
3) DVD drive should be plug and play, the bios will recognise it once its plugged in right and you can boot from it to install windows.
4) pop in the gfx card into the PCI-E slot and boot, the bios will be automatically set to recognise it on default
Wow thanks a lot thats really helped
I had my heart set on an AM2 and the crosshair board but i shall have to look into the core duo, i looked at the price and it's just £135
if what you say is true (about it smoking all of amds line) i am definatly going to take this route.
I just heard the AMD' were the best for gaming
AMD were the best up until Intel released Core2duo and they completely destroyed AMD with it.
Ask just about anywhere and you will be told the same. Core 2 Duo is the best processor out there and will be the best you can get for gaming at the moment. Quite novel for a processor to be affordable from intel too.
I can guarantee you that if you go with something like the E6300 you will not be dissapointed
