You could build a e6600 with faster memory, a dual tuner tv tuner, waaay faster video card, and 2x larger hard drive for under $2k

You can get a BIG monitor for $1k.

I agree with heyman's first post...none of those are worth $2.5k. For that much, I'd have 4gb RAM, ~750W PSU, an 8800GTX, and I might be able to work in a Core 2 Extreme.

If you are going to be building/buying a new PC there is no reason to get XP and not Vista

Other then the fact that not everyone agrees Vista is better. I've built three computers since Vista was released, all three are running XP. Vista is great and a lot of people are very happy with it but I'm not the only one that's still building with XP.

if your shelling out dollars though, it's better to get vista so you don't have to buy it later on
