Help Building First Computer

I think you should switch the HDD to a caviar black, but since you're getting an SSD I'm not sure if the difference matters that much. Also need a copy of Windows if you don't already have one, and you should look into an aftermarket cpu cooler.

I don't know how that had slipped my mind, but I would just get the home-premium 64 bit version of window to run on it:

Also, would the heat sink that comes with the intel processor not be adequate? I thought that it was interesting for the case to have the option to run an external radiator, but how would you know where to look for a compatible liquid cooling system that will fit on my motherboard and be long enough to reach out of the case?

what do you plan to use it for, unless doing editing or anymation or anything else involving encoding and decoding then go for this cpu and hte rest of the stuff is just plain better, and iff you can spend any more then there are a few other changes that would be nice, mainly a higher quality mobo

there is a slightly better version of this hdd in stock for 100. and if you do get the i7 it does have heat issues, and the tubing is fairly long so getting it out of the case shouldn't be too hard, but i think that's mostly for custom coolers not the factory ones like the antec kuhlers and corsair h's

johnb35, you advised my to switch to DDR3 1600, but the i-7 I chose only supports up to DDR3 1333 I believe. Also, where would I find compatible liquid cooling solutions? Thanks.

It will still work at 1600 mhz. You just may have to manually set the timings in the bios. You will get a small increase in performance as well.

As far as liquid cooling goes, thats not my specialty. I'm sure someone else will reply about that.

The corsair h100 or h60 fit most cases. I have a Thermaltake Bigwater 760, which takes a little more to set up but uses 2 drive bays instead of mounting to the back and it works really well.
