Help buying a new computer!

Hi,

I'm about to buy a new computer and I'd like some advice from experienced people. I'm willing to give about 8.000 danish kroner (~1067 Euro), but I've decided to buy it from shg.dk and have it collected there as well, so all the parts I choose must be on that website.

Currently my idea for the computer looks like this:

341303 XFX GeForce 7900GT M470, 256MB, PCI-E 1.999,00
321178 AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, S939, E6, Bulk 1.775,00
350892 Kingston DDR400, 2x1024 MB, CAS 3 1.425,00
820172 SeaSonic S12 PSU, 500Watt 899,00
310774 Asus A8N-E, nForce4 Ultra, S939 668,00
420387 WD Caviar SE16 2500KS, 250GB, SATAII 635,00
810914 Antec SLK3000B, Miditower, No PSU 399,00
750734 LiteOn SHM-165P6S-09C, DVD±RW, Black 250,00
730320 shg Soundcard 8768, 8 Channel Surround 199,00
999999 Montering, med emballage 450,00 (Having it put together)

Price: DKK 8.704 (~1.160 Euro)

It's a little expensive and I don't know if the parts connect well and if there's a weak point and so on, so please comment and if you got time search the site and see if you can find better/cheaper components.

I already have a screen, mouse, keyboard and speakers.

Update: (I'll just edit the initial post so the thread doesn't get too messy)
Harddrive changed to one with a 16 mb cache. CPU: Waiting for tomorrow to see if AMD prices drop. Keep the advices coming :)

Hi Rasmus, I could answer you in Danish, but of respect to those who does not have that capability I will do it in English. I live in USA by the way, and it is easier to get good deals if you have ameriecan credit cards I think. You know, you got a good system put together, but you might wanna up the PSU a bit...just my opinion. Later on, you may add more hardware......
I looked at the website, and it was hard to navigate, but I didn't see much choice in a lot of the hardware. Maybe it's just me?
If you can find it, may go 16MB on the buffer on your SATA II
All the parts you have put together, as far as I can tell, are working well together. No known issues.....but there are much more experience people around here.........anyone any insights for the Great Dane???

I would get Core 2 Duo or wait for the AMD prices to drop more.

I have never heard of the PSU before.

I would get a hard drive with 16MB cache instead.

321223 AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, AM2, BOX 2.269,00
341303 XFX GeForce 7900GT M470, 256MB, PCI-E 1.999,00

820172 SeaSonic S12 PSU, 500Watt 899,00
310999 Asus M2N-E, nForce570 Ultra, AM2 756,00
420387 WD Caviar SE16 2500KS, 250GB, SATAII 635,00
810914 Antec SLK3000B, Miditower, No PSU 399,00
750734 LiteOn SHM-165P6S-09C, DVD±RW, Black 250,00
730320 shg Soundcard 8768, 8 Channel Surround 199,00
999999 Montering, med emballage 450,00 (Having it put together)

Varebeløb inkl. moms: DKK 8.805,00

This is how it looks now. The AM2 system is a little more expensive, but I think there's more future in DDR2 ram. Also I can get 1024 mb quality ram (I think they are?) and then wait till i got more money to double them up.

I don't know if there's a soundcard integrated in the motherboard? Says it has "ADI AD1988, 8 Channel Surround". Would be nice to cut off the 199,- for the discount soundcard.

The "AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, AM2, BOX" is only temporary to see what kind of price it will be. If the Core 2 Duo you're talking about is not too expensive I'll try to have one of those put in it ^^

my 2 cents

everything looks up 2 par except the video card, and possibally the processor

i would go with a really high performance ati video card like a radeon X1900 not an nvidia

and if ur an amd guy go for ur amd, but i personally like to run lots of programs at once and amd is not a multitasker. a p4 extreme edition or bigger would be my choice

remember this: benchmarks can lie. old benchmark programs make the numbers higher and new ones make it lower. go by wat visually runs the fastest and clearest.

good luck w/ ur purchase!

A high end ATI is more expensive and his budget might not allow for it.

Why go for a P4 Extreme with Core 2 Duo becoming available in stores soon? It would make no sense. BTW, the AMD X2 series happens to be excellent multitaskers.

Look on monarchcomputer.com, i believe the pricecut is already in affect there as of today (July 23rd).
No, it isn't. They don't even carry all of the processors.

Does it look like he has enough money to blow on a processor like that? No. And he could just get a Core 2 duo which apparently killed the P4 EE in gaming performance.

Ok, the AMD processors dropped a lot in price now, so even though I changed the processor to a better one it was still cheaper! Also cut the soundcard as I found out that there's an integrated one in the motherboards. Got a highend SLI motherboard and slightly better DVD burner.

Think I'll order tomorrow :)

I would have left the DVD burner and mobo and gone for 2GB of RAM.

That's how it looks now! Changed to processor and the motherboard! :)

What do you think? Do the parts still fit together and are there any bottlenecks?

Ram: I can always put in another RAM block or two when I got the money :)
