Help: Cant access D drive dispite full authority

I have about 210 gb of data on it, but only about 50-70gb of that data is actually important. However, I don't really know how I could go about backing it up if I can't get any access to the drive at all. Is there a way to do it outside of windows?

Also I don't have any other spare hard drives with data on it to replace and see if it's possible for the computer to even read another hard drive, sorry

Just a HDD newbie question if I may. Could the HDD firmware and/orbios have it locked? As far as connecting the drive to another computer while the computer is already past post to bypass a lockout?

im sure this will work. if there is a operating system on the old drive that has your data on it, then try to boot from that using the same computer it came from. make sure you set the drive as the boot drive in the bios. (try your current pc as well, though it probably wont work). if you get it to boot, then you need to shut it down and hook up your new drive that your trying to get your data to. boot up again, making sure that the old drive is set as the boot drive in the bios, and you will be able to go to your data which will be in the c: drive (since you booted from the old drive), coopy it, then open up the d: drive (your new one), and go to users-your name-desktop, right click and create new folder, name it "data back up", and past it in that folder. when done, shut down, put your computer back the way it was, with the new drive set as the boot drive, and instal your old drive as well. boot up and you should have the data back up folder sitting right on your desktop. you can also at this time, delete the old hard drive and recreate any partitions ect ect, and use it for whatever. hope this helps. please let us know.

Ok, sounds good, but I do have some problems with that suggestion before I do anything.

First, the only other hard drive I have is 80gb, and there is only 10gb free on it, so I cannot put the data from the D:/ drive on it(which has around 210gb of data on it)

Also, the old computer it was in is dead, so there is no way I can boot it from that.

As well there is no os on it, the c drive is has always been responsible for that.

However I really appreciate the suggestion it's just I don't think that one will work. Keep them them coming please!

I honestly have no idea, any way I could try to figure this out?

Pull it out and put it in another computer(friends or relative) that has 32 bit os and try to access it.
No harm trying.

Sounds good, just I honestly dont have anyone near me with a 32 bit system.
but Ill keep asking around, and as soon as one pops up ill try it.

However, I'm starting to just think, could I just format it? would that allow me to access the drive? Im starting to wonder if all of that data is worth it

One last effort to get your system to read the 32 bit hard drive.

In your W7 explorer

1 Click Organize----->Folders and search option-----View Tab

2 Click show hidden files and folders

3 Untick hide protected operating system files (recommended)

4 Click yes to clear the warning.

5 Click OK

This procedure will hopefully allow W7 to read your 32 bit hard drive.

Let us know how you go.

I tried that, and I still get that error "D:/ is not accessible Access is denied"

I know it can somehow access it, because when I reset the owner to me, it went through each and every single file to change the ownership to me.
But thanks for the suggestion, keep them coming please

I still think it is a W7 problem reading the drive so I suggest you contact Microsoft as they might have a solution for you.
Answer to your earlier post about formatting the hard drive if you do then I'm sure the HD will be fine but you will lose all of your existing files.

Cheers
