Help, can't log on

My wife called me and said she got a Mcafee warning and proceeded to clean off whatever it was with the McAfee scan. After that finished, it then prompted her to shut down. Now when she attempts to log back on and clicks our name as we normally would it immediately logs us back off - like it's not letting her log into windows. We can do a Ctl/Alt/Del and get to a box that asks us for our login / password. When we key in what we think it is (usually we do not get that step), it tells us the user name/domain or password is incorrect. Basically we cannot get to the desktop. Any ideas?

first, you need to boot into safe mode (with networking)

then download Malwarebytes, install and update it. then run a full scan. clean out anything it finds, and i'm guessing it will find a few things. i'd also recommend uninstalling McAfee because it has been proven to be the worst antivirus, as well as a resource hog. Use AVG Free or Avira, or if you want to pay for a better one, AVG Internet Security 9.0, or the paid version of Avira.

If you still can't log on after that, maybe johnb35 can help you out. he's a guru with this stuff. :good:

I'd probably label McAfee a virus. Especially if you dont want to pay to upgrade it. It spams you with a super loud ding and pop up every 30 seconds.

This should work

yer - remove the password from windows with a bootcd. the one i use is LS Active Bootdisk Suite - get it here.

Has always worked for me, and comes with 10 day FREE trial.

if password removed and if lets you in, straight away get and use Anti Malware Bytes (something in my eyes that EVERYONE should have installed always alongside their antivirus). Download FREE version, install, update and full scan. It will remove any bad stuff it finds FREE, no trial, it'll always do that.

if you get as far as this replace Mcafee with AVG. Mcafee aint so good, AVG and Anti Malwarebytes are what I and all my clients use, and we dont get problems.

need any advise on the boot disk etc, giv us a shout.
