Help; CD/DVD Drives won't work

I'm getting rather irritated with my computer right now. I had just put in a geforce 6200 the other day in hopes I could improve my gaming graphics. Well, when I threw the driver disk (and game disk) in the drive it would not read them. I have put in 2 other drives and they won't read either. Could it be a malfunction in my IDE connector on my mother board? I've tried swapping IDE wire harnesses and the issue still continues (obviously). I've tried most remedies really, installing and reinstalling the drivers and such. So if anyone has a method that may work, it would be much obliged. Thanks

First thing, go into My Computer and see if the Drive is showing up.

Yes, every cd drive that I have installed into my computer has come up in my device manager, but they always have a little "Warning" sign next to them. When i try to update the drivers, or even install the driver for that matter, it says it can't. I just ordered a new cd/dvd drive in hopes that the 3 I have right now are just old / corrupted. If this one fails I'm going to say to hell with IDE and find a SATA drive.

In Device Manager right click on the IDE controller the drive/s are on ( not the drive but the IDE controller) and click uninstall. Reboot, let it redetect it and reinstall the driver. See if it works then.

So I just got in my new cd/dvd drive in, which is a sata, and I am still getting the same error. My computer is telling me that all of the bastards are corrupted. I'm beginning to wonder if I have a serious virus or something. Anyone have any other ideas?

you need to change the values in the registry. there is a tiny app called CD Gone i believe, you can try googling it, it just edits the registry for you

if you want to do it manually:

Copy the following into a text editor (notepad?) and save with the filename CDGONE.REG. Merge the resulting file into the registry to clear entries which may conflict with the new software.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

"LowerFilters"=-
