Help choosing a new monitor

Hey everybody, I just thought I would get some of your professional inputs and opinions on my decision to get a new monitor ;)

Uses:
1. Playing games (Cod4 and MW2 when it comes out mostly)
2. Watching movies (some of them are full blue-ray 1080 HD and some are just standard stuff)
3. Lots of photo editing
4. Lots of standard web browsing, youtube stuff and all that.
5. some video editing

I'm sure there is more I will be using it for but I think thats the main stuff.

Anyway, I'm stuck on what to go with the following:
1. 22" or 24"?
2. Full 1080 HD resolution or just standard 1680x1050/1920x1200?
3. Try one of LG's new LED 22" 1080 HD monitors or go for another kind of 22" or 24"?
4. What brand?
5. What model?

My personal thoughts:
I was down at Fry's Electronics the other day with my dad and he said he will get me a new monitor for my 18th b-day coming up in the next few weeks, I was browsing the monitors and saw a really nice Acer 24" 1080 with 2ms response time, picture was amazing, super crisp. I'll provide a link later. I also saw an Asus 24", also 1080 but 5ms response time, picture was still quite stunning on it though. Then I saw the LG's personal display of their new LED series, they were dead sexy :P I would only be able to afford the 22" though.

So should I sacrafice the extra 2" and go with the new LG LED, or go for the bigger screen? Should I get the Acer or the Asus, or something else??

Any advice, tips, notes, suggestions or whatever would be greatly appreciated.

right now im using that acer you saw at fry's. it came to like 236 after tax, its an amazing screen. the speakers in it are crap tho, hope you dont ever plan on using those! hdmi input is nice to have though, great for having an xbox or ps3 hooked up at the same time as your computer if you use the dvi for your comp.

btw you wont notice a difference between 720p and 1080p watching movies on anything smaller than a 32" for the most part. but thats only for movies, the resolution kicks butt in games (:

Your best bet isnt to go with a full HD one that is 1920x1080, if u want something good do what i did, go looking around for something online that has the resolution 1920x1200, they are basically the same price but you get better quality, i have a benq 24" and its great, so you might want to consider that. Also it cost me $280 with postage

the full HD resolution is 1920 x 1080, which is a 16:9 ratio. You may want to consider getting the 1920x1200 one, which is a 16:10 ratio. I personally prefer the extra vertical space for things like word documents and web pages, but high def movies will still have the black bars

I have also considered getting a 24" TV that will work as a monitor as well as I will be running dual monitors (whatever I get plus a standard 19" Sharp, not widescreen)

^^ I was looking at that one as well. It does look good.

I'm really starting to lean towards getting a tv/monitor though because:
1. My tv is old and only 20"
2. Im running dual monitors so it's not like I can only do one thing at a time
3. It would be HD!!:D lol

Thanks again for all the help, opinions and suggestions everybody.

I went to Fry's yesterday with my dad and ended up bringing this home: :D

So far it's great!!:D
The HD TV part looks amazing on the correct HD channels. And connected to my computer using the DVI cord it looks fantastic, nice and sharp, colors pop pretty well and CoD4 looks insane! :P Not to mention it seems a lot easier to see/shoot people with this monitor compared to my other 19" monitor(which isnt widescreen) lol :P

I'm loving it so far though, no dead/heated/cold/frozen pixels or anything as of yet. Hopefully all stays well:)
