Help Choosing GPU for Gaming Rig

Hello ladies and gentlemen.

My buddy and I are putting together a gaming rig just as a hobby. A lot of good games are coming out in the near future that we'd like to play on a decent computer.
Picking everything out was no problem except for the graphics card. My friend purchased an XFX 5750. However, I've been doing some research and I find that people think that XFX has bad customer service and progressively worse products. I wanna get the best for my dollar so I figure asking people first hand would be a good way to get input, rather than searching for hours. Here are my questions: (I am looking to spend a max of about $160-$170)

NVIDIA or ATI?

Then, which manufacturer? I hear that EVGA is the best all around, but of course that's a matter of opinion.

I would like a GPU that can run games on higher settings without difficulty. And I don't play any super demanding games.

Here is the list of components I have in my rig:
MOBO- ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD
CPU- AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
RAM- G. Skill 4GB Ripjaw Series
HDD- Western Digital Caviar Black 750gb
Case- NZXT Phantom White

Any input is extremely appreciated-

I'd go with the 460 as well. I like to think ASUS, Sapphire, EVGA or MSI are good brands. I wouldn't have gone with a 5750 though, you'll get decent frames at max on games up too bioshock(2007 I believe)...at least in my experience.
