help computer dead

i bought a used computer it was working fine
but had to install a sound card then it started
crashing i ran my xp cd to repair it started
and worked great i switched it off left for
a few hours then went back switched on and nothing
the cpu is run [fan] the lights comeing on
i think the hard drive is spining both my cds wont open
and nothing comes up on screen not even the welcome
my moniter is working have tried it on my other com

Do you have printers or anything attached? If so, try disconnecting absolutely everything from it except for a mouse, keyboard , monitor and the power. Make sure the mouse and keyboard are ps2, not usb. If it does, then there is a conflict with a device that you use. For example, my sister's desktop will NOT startup if my DVD player is hooked up. If this is the problem, I am not sure how to fix it, but someone else would. If it is not the problem, is there anything else you could describe about the problem?

Teapot, try unhooking the CD drive. If that does not work, then take out your video card and test it in another computer. If its not the card, disconnect everything unessential, inside of the computer. all optical drives, all hard drives, remove all but 1 stick of RAM, then test each on individually. let us know if this solves anything!
