im using an emachines computer(sucks, i know) and (a rogue copy) of windows 7.. anyways, whenever i restart the computer it will get to the starting windows but the loading bar below it never shows, and within a few seconds the moniter will go completely blank.. no keystrokes work.. i used to be able to restart it up to 20 times and it would finally work but today i did it over 30 and same thing wher "windows is loadin"(black screen, right after i select windows 7[have win 7 and vista and choose at bootup]) then moniter goes black..
i tried booting from the cd and it did the exact same, it would say "loading files" and once the bar was 100% it would go black..

any ideas? greatly appreciated seeing that im working on a piece of crap dell oldy with linux on it

I would burn a linux Live CD such as Knoppix and make sure that boots up correctly.

If so, I would simply reinstall the OS - preferably something legal ;) .

If not, then we know that you have hardware issues and we can trouble shoot from there.

To test for hardware issues, strip the computer down to its base components. Remove all PCI/PCIe/AGP cards, any USB devices and disconnect all other drives except for the HDD your OS is installed on (Or the CD drive for the Live CD). Plug in a PS/2 mouse and keyboard, plug it in and boot up. See if your OS will load that way.
