Currently running windows XP on HP desktop. PC running very slow during boot sequence. When I eventually get to the log in prompt for the password the pc hangs for about 10 minutes before eventually booting to desktop. The icons on the desktop are very slow to load, and when they do, and you double click on any icon again the pc hangs. In total it probably takes about 45 minutes before I can open or view any documents on the laptop.

Anyone out there had this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Holy Crap!! 45 minutes??!?!

Ummm maybe run a few virus and malware scans. If that doesn't help, maybe upgrading your computer? haha

type in msconfig into run and unclick stupid programs that you don't want to load when the computer loads. And do as Cal said Scan, scan and again scan...and then upgrade for the fun of it! :)

I had some what of that problem. It sounds like you have a virus or some sort of bug on your computer. Make sure you are using the most frequent update of your virus software My recommendations for virus pgrms. are AVG 7-7.5 unless you want to pay, But also go to the security section on the main page and there is a sub categorey im not exactly sure what it uis called but it lists many Anti-virus/spyware ect programs avalible and they all work great . Also for improving performance on your computer scince you are using XP unless you have around 2+G of RAM you will need to maybe run your system on the lowest settings. Go to Control Panel. Select System. Then it will bring up a new window called SYSTEM PROPERTIES. Select advanced, and under that it will say performance. Click settings for that. From there choose your option. "Adjust for best Performance" . Then fool around in there sorry a lot to read but hope it helps there more you can so if you want to just contact me either on here or my Email. [email protected]
