Help! Computer Temperature issue's and questions

I got a new Toshiba C850-1KN about 3 week's ago, and ive had no problems using it with programs like photoshop, Cubase ect. But recently i tried installing some games and whille its not exacly a gaming computer, i figured it should handle some games on lower resolutions and settings.

I installed Need for speed: Most Wanted and it works pretty well, with very little lag on lower settings, so i proceeded to install Skyrim which to also worked pretty well on lower settings!....

Then last night I put Age of Empires III on, but after around 45 minutes it automatically closed and displayed a message:

"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

So i used Speedfan to check the Temp and it said it was around 43c. so I loaded up AoE again and kept monitoring it, and after around 3 minutes on the game all temps of CPU and HDD shot up around 68c.....

So im not very well up on exactly what limitations certain systems have, but surely if I can run Skyrim, AoE should be fine? Or would you expect this from playing these games on this laptop? How hot should a CPU temp be or get to at a maximum safely?

Interesting. I too would like to know this, how hot is too hot for a laptop CPU?
My laptop CPU reaches 70 degrees when I run games. But it doesn't shut itself down and doesn't throw warnings like OP. Thanks.

So after some research I found a website about CPU info, so I searched for mine and found its maximum safe temperature is 85c. This prompted me to do abit more checking on my own system temps while doing tasks.

I found that:
playing 'The Walking Dead' over 2 hours = 68c
playing 'Angry Birds' over 1 hour = 68c
browsing internet a few hours = 56c

I loaded up AoE and set it to absolute minimum settings and even a resolution of 800x600 then used a 'game booster' which closed all unneeded background apps while gaming to reduce the load, then opened Speedfan to monitor the heat.

Before AoE started my temp was around 43c-45c then as soon as I turned on AoE the temperature raised to 65c just on the menu, but that's around normal for this laptop when under a load so I continued to play in windowed mode to keep one eye on Speedfan.

After around 5 minutes the temperature was up again to 73c regularly jumping 4 or 5c either way, after that I kept the game running but just paused to watch speed fan because the average temperature was raising and a pretty constant rate. It carried on consistently and at around 79c speedfan started showing small logo's of flames next to the temperatures and since it was jumping 3-4 C either way I figured it was about time to make my exit before it reached inevitably hit 85c.

I uninstalled it afterwards coz I can't get any lower settings and most other games seem to create less load. I put it down to just simply being to advanced for my laptop.

The only thing i'm not certain about is, should I send of for service... becuase I did have the error message.... Could it be a genuine problem with cooling system? or is it possible I just put to much load on the CPU and it got too Hot.

Oh by the way i_hate_toms

http://www.cpu-world.com should be pretty helpful because the average temperatures differ for each CPU but if you want to know about your processors maximum recommended temperature that website may have the answer.
