Help: computer wont turn on

So here's the situation: Computer in sig is maybe 4 months old, never had a problem w/ it before. This afternoon i fell asleep while it was playing/downloading music. I woke up to the "windows did not shut down properly" screen. I select restart windows normally and it begins to turn on then shuts off. Now it will not turn on. When i do turn it on the fans whir at what sounds to be full power and then stop. repeatedly untill i turn of the psu at the back. No bios screen shows up :(

it seems to me like the psu is not crankin enough power, but i switched out the radeon 4890 with my older gpu a radeon 256mb model, which doesnt even require a 6v rail and get the same symptoms.

the power/reset button seem to have no effect. is my p6t fried? :(

Try this procedure, unplug the power cord from the power supply, remove the cmos battery, press the power button on the front of the case a few times to discharge the motherboard. Then wait about a minute to reinsert the cmos battery, reconnect power and try booting up.

will this have the same effect as clearing the rtc ram by reseting the clrtc jumper? that was going to be my first move but i wasn't sure of the repercussions. the manual says it will clear the cmos memory
 
no dice. tried the jumper thing and removing/replacing the battery. When it powers up gpu fan runs at max, others sound normal. However now it doesnt continue turning on and off like before. the fans just continue to blaze and nothing displays on my monitor. front buttons still dont do anything, and both the blue lights on the front stay lit up. I believe they are power and hd access lights. any other ideas?
 
Try a different power supply. Unhook any nonessential hardware, only have the basic stuff hdd, memory, keyboard,mouse. No external devices like printers, ext hdd's. If that don't work then you may have a bad motherboard.

so far i've only been turnin it on w/ keyb/mouse/1 monitor/2 internal hdds. i'll try dropping down to the lower vid card and only use 1 hdd. if that doesnt work i'll see if i can get a juicier psu and test it all over again. worst comes to worst i guess i need a new mobo.

does it sound like it could be anything other than a weak psu or dying mobo??

update: tried turning it on this morning and everything seems to be working properly..? very weird. Does this sound like a psu problem? should i look into getting a bigger one? also, does anyone know how to access the error log in win7? i'm trying to figure out what happened here

Look under the event viewer. Right click on computer in start menu and click on manage, find event viewer on left.
 
thanks for all your help johnb! but before i could get the event viewer it shut off on me again. I had about 30 mins of power? This time no fans whirl when i try to turn it back on. To test the psu i've removed it from the new one and popped it into my 05' era dell runnin on a p4 so i know its big enough to juice it. Everything is working fine so i now know the psu works. Guess that narrows it down to a bad mobo. I think the mobo is still under warranty as i got it from newegg. I'm also going to look into getting a beefier psu as i think this might be part of the problem. Does this sound like a good plan of action?
 
Before you do that, maybe you can find a cheap computer repair place to actually diagnose the problem. Would hate for you to return and get new and still have the same issue. You should be able to find a place that will diagnose an issue for under 50 bucks.
 
good idea, although i dunno if they will do be able to do much more than i already have, aside from providing me w/ a bigger psu to test w/.
