Is DDR2 PC2-5300/4200/3200 ram the same or compatible with pc-2100 ram?

Is a Serial ATA hard drive the same thing as a 40 pin ATA hard drive?

I told my dad he needed pc-2100 ram and a 40 pin ATA hard drive for his HP Pavillion 761c. The above is what the sales people gave him, but my dad made is sound like they didn't know what they were doing. Before I open and install his stuff I want to make sure it will work in case I need to return it.

No, both are different. DDR2 PC2-XX00 is 240pin, PC2100 is 184pin. Serial ATA is also a different interface than PATA (aka 40pin ATA, IDE). The Pavillion 761c does not have SATA ports. PC2100 is the correct RAM but if you have PC2-anything it will not fit.

this may be a dumb question but is pc2100 the only ram that will work with this computer?
