Help deciding, I7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 1700

I need to upgrade my PC and not sure which way to go.

I process 4k, 5.2k and 6k video and edit. My PC currently works fine with 4k. But not 5.2k or 6k.
SO im debating on Intel I7 or the AMD Ryzen at this point.

Both Can handle my needs. The I7 has 6 cores with 12 threads but the AMD Ryzen is an 8 core with 16 threads.

Ive always been a fan of intels I-series processsors. But I need to know which one is better here.

Thoughts anyone?

IIRC Ryzen comes out ahead on things like Handbrake. The 1700X isn't much more expensive for additional base clock/turbo/xfr, and there's the ryzen refresh around the corner which is rumored to add +300 MHz across models.

Those are little bit bigger words than I understand lol Im not sure what handbrake is.

So if we compare the 1700X to the I7-8700K, which would you go with?
I just need a processor to handle my video editing.

I would definitely get Ryzen, price per performance is amazing.
