Im a university student, and am looking for a new laptop on a budget. I'm set on an aluminum one due to my past exp with laptops, and am trying to find something in my price range. I'll basically be taking notes, browsing online, watching movies, playing the odd game (basically only WOW, and an assortment of 16 bit games), and skyping with the girl. I Think i have narrowed it down to two laptops i think sort of meet the requirements (although open to any more suggestions), and it is between,

The only two discerning points I could think of, was the HP didnt have a dvd drive, and the lenovo has weaker battery life. What is the better option?

thankyou, i appreciate the info, i had had issues with HPs before, and assumed it was my fault. I'll research into those asus' then :). I am lovin the lenovo for now. appreciate the input

I personally think that Asus is one of the best brands, but no brand is perfect. I think that some of the high-end Lenovos are also good, but I'm not quite sure. Here's a slightly out-of-date study that I read a while back:

Once again, I'm not sure exactly how accurate it is nowadays, and it might not be an accurate reflection on the reliability of some Lenovo notebooks. My best advice would be to read reviews, and to try to find out what brand the internal components would be on each notebook you look at. There is a great deal of variation within each manufacturer's lineup when it comes to reliability. Good luck! :)

I would get the Lenovo, it have dedicated video memory and an i5 with higher speed. it has the same 4 cell battery.

Cheers
