i have a lot of files that are missing meta data I could right click the files, go to properties, and edit the details but the (artist, album, genre, etc.) no place for me to put it in all it shows in the description is( title, subject, category, keywoeds and comments ) my o.s is xp sp3

Google search an ID3 tag application that can scan your files and input the meta data for you. I haven't used one in a really long time but they do work.

i have used the the tag programs it dose not work on the file is not showing (artist, album, genre, etc. it just keeps on showing title, subject, category, keywoeds and comments in the description

Well when I used them it worked, but I do all the leg work before I rip CDs now, and if you downloaded pirated music you are at the pirates discretion.

Lets say you are a person who is hypothetically going to pirate music online, and you use some crappy software to rip your CD, which may not support standard ID3 tagging. Then you can't use apps that follow those standards.

Get iTunes since iTunes is actually a music database. Then look at custom scripts or add ons that can mass edit the meta data. Or get an application that organizes your music collection in the same manner as itunes, and use it to mass edit.

Or, go out and buy the music and rip it yourself.
