Help finding a good case?

okay so im planning the building of my first custom computer. so i need to know exactly how to choose a good chassis. any tips? anything will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
if you need me to list the pats im planning on getting let me know, i dont have much so far but the motherboard and processor. didnt plan to go any further until i have chosen a case.
 
Well, everything relies on eachother in a computer, Your Mobo needs to also match your case like a big puzzle. When you look for a case you have to have in mind what you're doing for cooling, the size of the powersupply your getting, if your Mobo supports only a certain kind of RAM, and that your processor has the right socket to fit in the first place. I could help you if you gave me a little more of what you have, and then what you had in mind.
 
hmm... well so far like i said i only have the motherboard and processor, im not planning on building an extreme computer for over-clocking or anything, least not yet. not on the first one ^_^

im still looking into other parts, and finding compatibilities. power supply was also going to be a question i was going to ask about later in this forum.

the overall idea of this computer is to built for casual gaming and regular use.
any ideas on good compatible parts would be a great help too
 
Ok i like the processor you picked out, very good good budget cpu. However that motherboard is junk. It's micro-atx and your going to want to look for a standard atx form factor for your motherboard for expandability and stability. I would recommend an Asus or Gigabyte motherboard as they are the most reliable brands.

For a case i recommend the Antec 900. It has the best airflow for keeping everything cool and its reasonably priced.

And for a power supply that would depend on what you hardware you have. Good brands for power supplies would be thermaltake, corsair, and pc power and cooling.

Ethan3 is right....that motherboard is junk. Maybe look for something from ASUS, MSI or Gigabyte. I an sure you will be better off with an ATX form factor and not micro ATX. You can get a good ASUS motherboard for about $90 The one below has an Intel P43 chipset, has 10/100/1000 LAN, and supports DDR2 memory which is very cheap right now. This is just one example of good motherboards at good prices.

The Antec 900 is a great case and is going for only $120 on Newegg. I have the XION II case which is only $60 after rebate. At first I was a bit worried buying such a cheap case. Once I got it I was very impressed with it:) It is great case for the price. I put a 12" green cold cathode light in and it looks great. I was also worried about all my stuff fitting in the case. It is a good size mid tower, I have a Evga 9800 GTX and it fits without any problems with 1 1/2 inch clearance. The power supply it come with is junk, you will have to get a real power supply. I would recommend this case to anybody that is building a mid-range system.

Exactly how much do you want to spend on a case and what type of case do you want? (heavy duty, light, flashy, understating look)?

Check out this one. It's $85, looks sleek, and not all flashy with LED's if you don't want that. But it does have LED fans in it. Can hold up to 7 120mm for great cooling and has a lot of great reviews.

That motherboard is bad if you want to overclock. If you are not overclocking though, and it has the ports and features you need, it is perfectly fine and will perform just as well as any other motherboard. I would not get a new one just to get a "good" motherboard, because the motherboard doesn't really affect speed, it just limits it.
