I need to connect two computers over a long distance (approx 50 miles minimally). Traditional cellular modems are not suitable as there will be no services available. A digital solution would be necessary as sensor information and command codes will need to be transmitted accurately.
Will be run off of 12v DC, though an inverter could be used if power consumption is reasonable. I realize that transmitter power might be limited to 1mW for some modems, though I hope to get around this by purchasing the system second hand.
Only need to send compressed digital video one-way, but sensor information will need to be encrypted and sent 2-way. I'm thinking I may need to transmit these separately over separate modems if connection speed is two slow...?
I need help finding a suitable modem, does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of using an Xtend RF Modem though I only need Point-to-Point. C'mon I know someone has heard of something that would work. Let me know!
