PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that's easy enough. If it's Windows XP and you have already tried reinstalling the driver for it then it's garbage and time to buy a new one.

The lazer is kaput! You can try right clicking on the drive's icon and going into "properties>auto play" to change the "prompt for each action" to select the "take no action" option from the list. But the likely need is for a new drive unless the cable itself is the problem. Sometimes a cable will goof on you. These are a pair of quick test items.

Autoplay has nothing to do with it.

Check to see if you can see the drive in My Computer. If you can, the ribbon cable has nothing to do with it either. The chances of a ribbon going bad in three months are about the same odds as AMD recording more profits per quarter than Intel. Which is pretty much nil.

Go into the Device Manager and right click on the drive. You will see the driver tab in there where you can uninstall the driver, then reinstall it. Hopefully that will clear things up. If not you need to RMA the drive.
