I would first start with a re-boot of the system. If the problem persists then I would open the case and make sure everything is connected correctly (probably is, but still). Then boot up and check BIOS to make sure it is being detected.

If not, then your problem might be a failing HDD.

ok thank you.
but i already re-booted my system and im going to check inside for any loose wires/connections.
then i'll look into the bios if problem exists still. :good:
cheers.

Or, if none of that works, open up Registry Editor by going to run and typing regedit. Press enter.

Click on Edit and then select Find and type mountpoints2 and then delete all instances of the key by pressing the keyboard key, F3.
This should help you, just give it a shot.

Tried that just now! It says:
Unable to delete all values.
:eek::( :mad:

@JTM : It doesn't harm the registry in any way, just resets the mount points, that's why I thought against a registry backup.

Anyways, so the mount points are locked, when was the last time you scanned your system for malware?
Have a scan with MBAM (download it from malwarebytes.org) and start a full system scan.

Deleting the mountpoints2 key usually resets the way the partition is loaded up, so that's what I had you do, it doesn't affect anything as such.

i last done a COMPLETE SYSTEM SCAN using "Norton Internet Security/Anti Virus."

Thanks for clarifying this.

Ok, but I suggest you run a scan with MBAM. I think it might remove something, because the mountpoints2 key is being blocked from being removed by something.

Thanks for clarifying this.

you're welcome :D
:( = is there a way i can get my hard drive back?
i have millions and millions of important files on there and need them ASAP.

This kind of thing happened to me a few years ago and my dads mate who fixes our computers said "the hard drive failed" and there was no way of fixing it.

:(

Well that could also be true, the hdd might have failed. Do you know anyone with a hdd enclosure?

No sorry i dont at the moment. but i could ask my dads mate.
What is a HDD Enclosure?
thanks . :good:

Basically it's a case for a hdd that has the connections you need to hook the drive up inside a plastic case. You can then hook it up to your pc via USB and obtain files from it (if it hasn't failed).
